Community Events Remembering the Signing of EO9066
    February 16 - 20, 2017

    February 19, 2017 marks the 75th anniversary of the signing of Executive Order 9066 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. In remembrance of the devastating, disruptive impact this made on the Japanese American community, numerous events in Northern California Western Nevada JACL District will take place during the week of February.     Smithsonian Exhibit

    Bill Yoshino, interim executive director, announces upcoming opening of the Smithsonian Exhibit at the National Museum of American History in Washington, DC. The exhibit is titled ‘Righting a Wrong: Japanese Americans and World War II.’ The exhibit will open to the public on Friday, February 17, 2017, and it will run for one year closing on February 20, 2018. The exhibit will be in the Albert H. Small Documents Gallery.

    The exhibition will explore the history of Japanese American incarceration, including display of the Executive Order 9066 on loan from the National Archives and Record Administration, original artwork by Roger Shimomura, who spent several years in the Minidoka Camp in Idaho, along with historic images and objects.
